The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intercepted expired non-alcoholic beverages valued at N35 million in Kaduna.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday in Kaduna, Andrew Tamanuwa, Deputy Director of the Investigation and Enforcement Directorate at the NAFDAC Kaduna Office, revealed that the operation followed a tip-off from a good Samaritan on Sunday evening.
According to Tamanuwa, the informant alerted the agency that two buses and a Golf Wagon were conveying expired beverages to Kwanar Dangora in Kiru Local Government Area of Kano State.

In response, NAFDAC’s investigation and enforcement team swiftly intervened, intercepting the vehicles and arresting the owner of the consignment.
The seized products included 700 packs of Schweppes and 300 packs of Fanta Orange flavour.
Further investigation led operatives to a warehouse located on Bayajidda Road in Kaduna, where additional expired products were discovered. These comprised 588 packs of Schweppes, 3,508 packs of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, and 87 packs of Fanta Orange flavour.
Tamanuwa disclosed that the products had expired in November 2024 and had since been evacuated to the agency’s warehouse, pending destruction.
He added that investigations were ongoing to uncover other individuals involved.
He urged members of the public to report any suspicious products, particularly during festive periods, in order to protect public health.
Tamanuwa reaffirmed NAFDAC’s commitment to vigilance against expired and harmful products and assured Nigerians of the agency’s continued efforts to safeguard their health.
