Former Kaduna State Governor, Mukhtar Yero, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Kaduna North senatorial district.

The Returning Officer for the exercise, Hassan Jirgi, announced the result in Zaria.

According to Jirgi, Yero secured 6,060 votes in the direct primary election conducted across the eight local government areas of the senatorial district by defeating his closest rival, Mohammed Mukaddas, who scored 1,044 votes, while Yusuf-Bala Ikara polled 372 votes.

Also, former Senator Shehu Sani emerged as the winner for the Kaduna Central senatorial districts

Sani defeated former Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Yusuf Zailani, and another aspirant, Mr Shettima, in the contest.

Announcing the results, the Returning Officer, Sameera Ibrahim announced that Sani polled 9,105 votes, while Zailani secured 1,021 votes, and Shettima garnered 1,253 votes respectively.

Meanwhile, the incumbent Senator Sunday Katung won the Kaduna South senatorial ticket.

Katung secured the ticket after defeating Danjuma La’ah and Michael Auta in the primary elections conducted across 87 wards in eight local government areas.

The Chief Returning Officer, John La’ah, declared Mr Katung winner with 7,513 votes, La’ah 1,370, and Auta 878 in the keenly contested exercise.

House of Representatives tickets 

Meanwhile, the APC has also announced the results of its House of Representatives primary elections, with several prominent politicians and consensus candidates emerging across the state’s federal constituencies.

The Chairman of the primary election committee, Senator Yakubu Hosseini, announced the results at the APC State Secretariat in Kaduna, stating that the exercise was conducted in line with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.

For Zaria federal constituency, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajuddeen emerged unopposed with 930 votes.

In Zango Kataf/Jaba federal constituency, Amos Gwamna Magaji emerged through consensus after polling 1,930 votes.

Also, for Kaduna north federal constituency, Samaila Abdul Suleiman secured victory with 3,049 votes, defeating Abdulaziz Abubakar Kaka, who scored 65 votes, and Abubakar Mahmoud, who polled 96 votes.

While in Kaura federal constituency, Benjamin Gugong defeated Donatus Mathieu, polling 1,085 votes against 255 votes.

The party also announced Mukhtar Zakari Chawai as the consensus candidate for Kauru federal constituency with 1,750 votes.

Similarly, Felix Joseph Bagudu emerged as the winner for Kachia federal constituency with 1,580 votes, while Daniel Amos was declared the winner for Jema’a/Sanga federal constituency.

Others are Kagarko/Kachia federal constituency, with Gabriel Salle emerging victorious after satisfying the requirements of the party and Sadiq Ango Abdullahi, who polled 920 votes in his constituency’s contest.

Other successful contestants include Muhammad Jallo, who scored 1,171 votes, and Bashir Suleiman Juntu, who secured 1,787 votes in their respective constituencies.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present at the venue to monitor the exercise and received the collated results from the various constituencies.
