The Lagos State Government has commenced the second phase of its Farmers Subsidy Programme, aimed at boosting food security and supporting smallholder farmers across the state.
The initiative, implemented through the Ministry of Agriculture, is designed to provide financial relief and production inputs to farmers affected by rising costs of agricultural materials and other economic challenges.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Abisola Olusanya, said the programme demonstrates the government’s continued commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity and ensuring sustainable food systems.
She noted that the subsidy would cover key agricultural sectors including crop production, fisheries, poultry, and livestock, adding that the scheme seeks to make farming more profitable and attract younger generations into the sector.

Olusanya said, “This second phase builds on the success of the first, where thousands of farmers benefited from input support, feed supplements, and production equipment. Our goal is to ensure that no farmer is left behind in the quest for food sufficiency.”
Beneficiaries of the programme expressed appreciation to the state government for its consistent support, noting that the subsidy would significantly ease the burden of production costs and encourage higher yields.
The Lagos Farmers Subsidy Programme forms part of the state’s broader agricultural transformation agenda, which aligns with the Food Systems Transformation Pathway and the National Agricultural Technology and Innovation Policy (NATIP).
