Lagos Water Corporation, in partnership with WaterAid, has begun installing an automated water kiosk as part of the ongoing rehabilitation of the Akilo Micro Waterworks.
The project, when fully commissioned, is expected to provide safe drinking water to over 100,000 residents in Akilo and surrounding communities.
The kiosk locations were selected based on detailed baseline and household studies, ensuring they are positioned close to homes and streets where water access is most needed.
The automated system allows residents to purchase treated water using a simple reloadable card. Users tap the card to start and stop the flow, paying only for the water they consume, with every transaction clearly recorded.
This kiosk is among several community water points being established under the initiative, aimed at reducing reliance on unsafe wells and high-cost vendors, while making clean and affordable water more accessible to households in and around Akilo.
