Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State has reaffirmed the state’s readiness to attract and accommodate foreign investment and private enterprise.

The governor, represented by his deputy, Joel Salifu, gave the assurance on Monday in Lokoja during a meeting with Mr Xzhang Cong, the country representative of Shanxi Construction Investment Group.

He stated that Kogi was open to partnerships with international investors and highlighted the state’s abundant land, skilled workforce, and rich deposits of solid minerals as key attractions.

Governor Ododo emphasised that such collaborations would yield mutual benefits boosting economic growth and enhancing the welfare of the people.

He reiterated his consistent appeal to foreign companies to establish operations within Kogi State, rather than exporting raw materials for processing abroad.

According to him, setting up operations locally would enable companies to maximise profits by reducing transportation costs.

The governor also assured the delegation of the state government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining a secure and business-friendly environment for investors.

In response, Mr Xzhang Cong explained that Shanxi Construction specialises in coal-powered electricity generation, noting that Kogi’s abundant coal reserves were central to the company’s interest in the state.

He added that the success of their investment would depend heavily on government support and assurances of safety, both of which are vital to their operational plans.
