The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of 51 suspects and the recovery of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs during an intelligence-led clearance operation targeting criminal hideouts across the Kano metropolis.

The three-day operation, which ran from Friday to Sunday, covered several locations within Kano Municipal, Dala, Gwale, and Tarauni Local Government Areas. Areas raided included Kofar Mata, Zage, Kurna, Rijiyar Lemo, Dorayi, Hotoro, and Sheka Quarters.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, stating that the exercise formed part of the command’s ongoing efforts to eradicate thuggery and related criminal activities in the state.

“The command is fully determined to decisively tackle thuggery and its associated crimes. Fifty-one suspects were arrested, and dangerous weapons and illicit drugs were recovered,” Abdullahi said.

He quoted the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, as cautioning against the use of weapons during traditional performances such as “Kidan Gangi.”

Bakori also expressed concern about the growing trend of brandishing weapons on social media platforms, including TikTok, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram.

“Displaying dangerous weapons on social media platforms glamorises criminality and lures teenagers into gang-related activities. Anyone caught engaging in such will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” Bakori warned.

He further cautioned parents, guardians, and blacksmiths who aid or conceal the possession of weapons, stressing that they would also be held accountable under the law.

Bakori said, “The command urges the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious behaviour,” while assuring that efforts to maintain peace and security in the state would be intensified.

He also shared the command’s emergency hotlines: 08032600299, 08032600300, and 08032600301.
