In a major move to overhaul public education in Kano State, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has flagged off the distribution of instructional materials worth ₦2.8 billion to public schools across the state.
The initiative, unveiled at a ceremony in Kano, includes the supply of textbooks, laboratory equipment, laptops, sports kits, and attendance registers. According to the governor, the distribution is part of a comprehensive strategy to revitalise the state’s education sector and ensure students are equipped for modern learning demands.
Governor Yusuf described the investment as a strategic response to the challenges facing education in the state, with a focus not only on academic improvement but also on science, technology, physical development, and digital literacy.
“This intervention is aimed at modernising our schools and enhancing the quality of education in both academic and extracurricular areas,” the governor said.
Alongside the distribution, the administration is implementing a major security initiative. A total of 17,600 security guards are being recruited to safeguard public schools, with 400 personnel to be deployed in each of the 44 local government areas.

The security personnel, Governor Yusuf explained, will receive training to carry out surveillance and collaborate with law enforcement to ensure the safety of students and staff.
In addition, the state plans to solarise 200 public schools and integrate qualified staff under the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) initiative into permanent employment, signalling long-term commitment to improved education infrastructure and workforce stability.
Governor Yusuf urged school heads, parents, and community stakeholders to ensure proper utilisation of the distributed materials and to support government efforts aimed at educational transformation. He reaffirmed that education, youth empowerment, and security remain central to his administration’s development agenda.
