Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, says his administration has paid about ₦7 billion in compensation to 4,865 households affected by road construction projects across the state’s three senatorial districts since May 2023.
Sani disclosed this in Zaria during the flag-off of another round of compensation payments worth about ₦2 billion to 865 households affected by township road projects in Zaria, Giwa and Shika.
He said the payments were intended to cushion the impact of the projects on property owners whose homes, businesses and other structures had been affected by the construction works.
The governor explained that the reconstruction of 11 township roads in Zaria and Sabon Gari Local Government Areas, alongside projects in Giwa and Shika, was designed to improve road connectivity, stimulate commercial activities and ease access to essential services.
He said his administration recognised the effects of infrastructure development on affected communities and regarded compensation as an obligation to residents whose properties were required for public projects.
Sani commended the affected households for their cooperation and directed relevant utility agencies to accelerate the relocation of water, electricity and telecommunications infrastructure to ensure the timely execution of the projects.
