The Kaduna State House of Assembly on Thursday confirmed the nomination of Ahmed Maiyaki by Governor Uba Sani as the new Commissioner for Information.

Maiyaki took a bow after introducing himself to the House. In a subsequent interview, he pledged to adopt a more proactive and responsive approach to government communication. He stressed the importance of keeping citizens informed and actively involved in governance.

The Commissioner highlighted the Ministry of Information’s vital role in bridging the gap between government and the people.

“Communication must not be an afterthought. It should be clear and responsive, helping citizens understand government actions while also keeping the government aware of public concerns,” he said.

When asked about bringing back experienced personnel, Maiyaki clarified that retired staff would not return to active service, but their wisdom and guidance would be welcomed.

He added that skilled individuals within the ministry were being identified to ensure prompt and effective service delivery.

Reflecting on his previous experience, Maiyaki expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead.

“Alhamdulillah, I’ve been here before though not in this role. I look forward to working with the team,” he said.

Earlier in the session, the Assembly passed two bills after their third readings:

  • A bill amending the Kaduna State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2017.

  • A bill establishing the Kaduna State Tourism, Museum, Landscape, and Recreational Services Law, 2025.

Both motions were moved by Mahmud Lawal (Zaria constituency) and seconded by Hassan Muhammad (Ikara constituency).

The Assembly also considered the second reading of a bill proposing the establishment of the Kaduna State Tertiary Institution Regulatory Agency and Other Related Matters, 2025.

Sponsored by Mahmud Lawal, the bill seeks to reform tertiary education in the state through data-driven regulation and enhanced accountability.
