Justice Ogunmoye Becomes Substantive Chief Judge of Ekiti State

Ekiti State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Justice Lekan Ogunmoye as the substantive Chief Judge of the state.

The confirmation was announced at the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Mr Adeoye Aribasoye, at the Assembly complex in Ado-Ekiti,

Justice Ogunmoye, accompanied by the State Commissioner for Justice, Mr Dayo Apata, alongside a delegation of Justices and judiciary staff, appeared before the State House of Assembly.

Earlier, the Speaker had read a letter from Governor Biodun Oyebanji requesting the screening and confirmation of Acting Chief Judge Ogunmoye as the substantive Chief Judge.

The house drilled the nominee while the Majority leader, Mr Tolu Ige and Minority leader, Mr Oladele Ogunsakin spoke about his attributes.

The Chairman, House Committee on Judiciary and Legal matters, Mr Babatunde Oke read the report of their findings to the lawmakers which the house discussed and adopted at the committee of the whole house.

At the end of the Comprehensive debate and vote by the lawmakers, the Speaker confirmed Ogunmoye’s as the state’s Chief Judge .

Justice Ogunmoye promised to make use of information technology in the court proceedings.

Brief History:

Justice Lekan Ogunmoye was born in Omuo-Ekiti in 1963. He attended the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), where he obtained an LLB in Law, and was called to the Bar in 1987. He subsequently joined the Ondo State Civil Service.

He was appointed the Acting Chief Judge in November, 2024 till his confirmation as the Chief Judge by the state House of Assembly.
