As the Nigerian music industry continues to gain international recognition, Jimmy Poska, a versatile DJ, is expanding his reach far beyond the African continent.
Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Poska has pursued his dreams across borders, now running vibrant Afro lounges in Moscow, Russia, under the name Poska Lounge.
Recalling his early discovery of his musical talent, Poska reflects on how rhythms and sounds always resonated deeply with him.
 “Music has always been my motivation since I was a little kid,” he shared.
Hailing from Delta State, Isoko, Nigeria, Poska’s cultural roots remain strong, yet his aspirations have always extended beyond his immediate surroundings.
Relocating to Russia marked a pivotal moment in Poska’s career. Despite the challenges of moving from Lagos to Moscow, he embraced the transition with determination, aiming to become the biggest Afro DJ in Russia. Through consistent effort, his dream is steadily becoming a reality. The establishment of Poska Lounge is a testament to his commitment, providing a cultural space where Afrobeat thrives and is enjoyed by a diverse audience.
With years of experience in the music industry, Poska attributes his enduring success to his passion for DJing and the influence of iconic artists. “My inspiration always comes from inside,” he explained. “Listening to great artists helped build me up and keeps me grounded.”
Poska’s list of musical influences includes industry legends like Calvin Harris, David Guetta, DJ Khaled, DJ Jimmy Jatt, DJ Snoop Da Damaja, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Premier, and A-Trak.
Looking ahead, Jimmy Poska envisions an even greater future. In the next five years, he aims to elevate Afrobeat culture in Russia and globally to unprecedented levels. “I see myself taking Afrobeat culture in Russia and the world beyond any imagination,” he said.
This dream is already beginning to take shape with his upcoming debut single. Although details remain under wraps, Poska hinted at an exciting collaboration with talented artists, promising fans a fresh and authentic sound. “Anticipate good music,” he teased.
Despite his growing fame, Jimmy Poska remains humble and thoughtful about the music industry. When asked what he would change, he prioritised sincerity over arrogance. “A lot of the old cats and some of us new cats are doing great things,” he noted.
“I would just follow their path and learn to do it with my own vibe.” His philosophy reflects both humility and individuality.
Outside the spotlight, Poska describes himself as family-oriented and loyal, values he believes are becoming increasingly rare in today’s world. He credits these traits with helping him stay true to his path and build genuine relationships in the fast-paced music industry.
