The ancient town of Ilara, in the Epe Division of Lagos State, is set to roll out the drums in celebration as the Alara of Ilara, Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo (Telade IV), marks five years on the throne.
The Chairman of the Organising Committee for the coronation anniversary, Prof. John Obafunwa, made this known in a statement on Sunday.
Obafunwa stated that the event would be held from August 15 to August 17 to showcase the cultural vibrancy and communal spirit of the ancient kingdom.
According to him, festivities will begin with an empowerment programme and a free medical outreach for residents of Ilara, aimed at improving the well-being of the people. On the same day, a special Jumat service will also be held in honour of the traditional ruler.
Obafunwa further disclosed that, on August 16, selected individuals and couples would be conferred with honorary chieftaincy titles in recognition of their distinguished contributions to the development of the community.
The honourees include Prof. John Obafunwa, Jelili Olayemi, Prof. Kemi Pinhero, Amb. Oluwatoyin Lawal, Mrs. Abiodun Lawal, and Dr. Olanrewaju Obasa. Others are Chief Akinyele Oladeji, Mrs. Toyin Oladeji, Mr. Rotimi Edu, and Mrs. Olayemi Edu.
The anniversary celebrations will conclude with a thanksgiving service, followed by a royal banquet in honour of the traditional ruler.
Before ascending the throne in 2020, Oba Ogunsanwo had a career in public service, during which he served Lagos State as a respected tax and finance expert, culminating in his appointment as Chairman of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service.
