Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, has expressed support for collaboration with Propcom+, a UK Aid-funded initiative focused on climate-resilient agriculture and market development.

Propcom+, an eight-year programme running from 2023 to 2030, seeks to drive economic growth by improving agricultural productivity and supporting smallholder farmers and SMEs in regions affected by conflict and climate change.

During a courtesy visit by the Propcom+ delegation on Tuesday, Mr Edun reaffirmed the Nigerian government’s dedication to inclusive economic development through targeted investments in agriculture.

He explained that the government is working closely with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, the African Development Bank, and other partners to scale up access to subsidised inputs and financing for farmers across both wet and dry seasons.

The minister also emphasised the government’s commitment to transparency and efficiency in its intervention programmes, referencing the use of biometric systems for direct benefit transfers to vulnerable groups. He added that new initiatives are underway to connect farmers with structured markets to ensure tangible benefits reach rural communities.

The Propcom+ team, led by Fadekemi Abiru, reiterated their willingness to support Nigeria’s economic reform agenda, especially efforts aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and improving the livelihoods of those in fragile environments.

The meeting highlights growing cooperation between Nigeria and the UK in advancing climate-smart agriculture and rural development.
