The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Lateef Fagbemi, has inaugurated the construction of five-bedroom duplexes in the Asokoro District, Abuja, to serve as official residences for the Heads of Courts in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The project, which also includes a three-bedroom guest house, is designed to provide comfortable and secure accommodation for key judicial officers the President of the Court of Appeal, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, and the President of the National Industrial Court.

According to the minister, the initiative was conceived under the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who considers the welfare and security of judicial officers essential to strengthening judicial independence and promoting the rule of law.

Fagbemi noted that the President’s policy aims to eliminate the long-standing challenge of judges residing in rented accommodation, which often compromises their comfort and security.
“To Mr President, providing secure, high-quality residential accommodation is crucial to the sustenance of the independence of the judiciary and the promotion of the rule of law,” Fagbemi said.
He further assured that, as part of the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s commitment, no judge in the FCT would be living in a rented apartment by the end of President Tinubu’s first tenure.
The housing project forms part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance the welfare of judicial officers and reinforce institutional integrity within Nigeria’s justice system.
