The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc (EEDC) on Monday, advised electricity consumers within its network, to prioritise safety in handling electrical appliances, during the rainy season.

The Head of Corporate Communications of EEDC, Mr Emeka Ezeh, gave the advisory in a statement to newsmen in Awka, noting that the rainy season comes with increased risks of electrical hazards, such as electrocution, electrical fires, and damage to appliances.

He said that the advisory was necessary considering the nature of the electricity network obtainable in the environment.

According to him, lightning could strike power lines or buildings, and pose risk of electrocution, which could cause power surges and consequent damage to electrical gadgets
