The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, has urged Nigerians to renew their commitment to democratic values and national unity as the country commemorates Democracy Day.
Alake said the significance of June 12 extends beyond the celebration of democratic governance, describing it as a reminder of the sacrifices made by patriots who fought for the nation’s freedom and democratic rights.
In a message shared on his X account, the minister called on citizens to reflect on the courage, determination and resilience that have shaped Nigeria’s democratic evolution over the years.
“As we mark Democracy Day, I join millions of Nigerians in reflecting on the profound courage and resilience that shape our democratic journey,”
According to him, the country’s democratic achievements were secured through sacrifice and should not be taken for granted. He stressed that sustaining democracy requires continuous participation and commitment from all citizens.
Alake encouraged Nigerians to use the occasion to renew their dedication to national unity, peace and progress, noting that collective efforts are necessary to build a nation that offers opportunities and prosperity for all.
“Let us use this milestone to recommit ourselves to building a stable, prosperous Nigeria that truly works for everyone,” Alake said.
