Brighton & Hove Albion reignited their push for European football with a dramatic 3–2 victory over Premier League champions Liverpool at the Amex Stadium on Monday.

Liverpool looked in control early on when Harvey Elliott opened the scoring in the 9th minute, slotting home from a Conor Bradley cross. Brighton responded in the 32nd minute with a well-taken equaliser by Yasin Ayari, only for Dominik Szoboszlai to restore the Reds’ lead before the break with a looping effort that beat the goalkeeper.

However, the second half belonged to Brighton’s substitutes. Kaoru Mitoma, introduced after the interval, levelled the game in the 69th minute, reacting quickest to a rebound after Danny Welbeck’s shot was parried.

The hosts sealed the comeback in the 85th minute when fellow substitute Jack Hinshelwood found the net from Matt O’Riley’s assist. Although initially ruled offside, the goal was awarded after a VAR review.

The win moves Brighton up to eighth in the table, keeping their slim hopes of European qualification alive. For Liverpool, who had already secured the title, it marked a third straight match without a win since being crowned champions.
