The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, has called for stronger collaboration between the Nigerian Army and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), emphasising the importance of keeping citizens well informed about military operations.
Anele made the appeal on Monday during a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of NAN, Mallam Ali Muhammad Ali, at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
She explained that the visit aimed to strengthen the existing relationship between both institutions and commended NAN for its consistent and positive reportage on the Nigerian Army.
“First and foremost, I would like to commend you for the excellent coverage of our activities,” Anele said.
“I’m here this afternoon to explore further areas of collaboration and to request increased visibility for our operations.
“I know your platform has an extensive reach what you publish resonates not only across Nigeria but globally as well.”
In response, Ali congratulated Lieutenant Colonel Anele on her appointment, describing her as “the best man for the job.”
He assured her of NAN’s continued support, noting the long-standing and cordial relationship between the agency and the Nigerian Army.
“We’re taking this partnership to a new level. The Chief of Army Staff couldn’t have chosen a better person,” he said.
“We’re also pleased that the Nigerian Army recognises the value of appointing a female spokesperson. Given the unique qualities of women, the Army has made an excellent choice.”

Ali highlighted NAN’s strategic positioning as the only news agency in Africa with a presence at the United Nations and across key African capitals. He added that the agency is working to reopen foreign offices, particularly in London, and expand into BRICS nations.
“With our vast reach and network, we have a presence in every district and state across Nigeria,” he noted.
“We also operate 12 zonal offices and a highly active, inclusive, and growing YouTube channel.”
Ali added that NAN’s multimedia unit continues to enhance the agency’s service delivery, and its content is regularly sought after by sister media organisations.
“We supply news to others and maintain numerous Memoranda of Understanding and partnerships with global media organisations,” he said.
He cited NAN’s news exchange arrangements with international outlets such as Reuters, Xinhua, TASS, Sputnik, and others as proof of its far-reaching influence.
“That’s why we proudly say: when you speak to NAN, you speak to everyone. We pride ourselves on knowing Nigeria better than anyone,” he concluded.
