Angola’s National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG) has announced plans to sign an exclusive negotiation agreement with oil major Shell for the exploration and development of Blocks 19, 34, 35, as well as several ultra-deep-water blocks.
In a statement released late on Thursday, the agency said the signing ceremony will take place on 3 November, describing the partnership as a major step forward for Angola’s energy sector.
“This event marks a historic moment for the Angolan oil sector, consolidating Shell’s presence in Angola,” the ANPG stated.
Angola, Sub-Saharan Africa’s second-largest crude oil producer after Nigeria, has in recent years embarked on significant regulatory reforms to attract fresh investment into its energy industry. The reforms aim to sustain national crude production at above one million barrels per day.
The new deal is expected to deepen collaboration between Shell and Angola, further strengthening the country’s position as a key player in the global oil market.
