The outgone Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has urged Nigerians, both military personnel and civilians to remain steadfast in their loyalty, dedication, and commitment to national unity, describing the security of the nation as a collective responsibility.
General Musa made the appeal on Friday during his valedictory remarks at the Pulling Out Parade Ceremony held in Abuja, marking the end of his 39 years and four months of service to the Nigerian Armed Forces.
He described the occasion as a sacred military tradition that not only honoured his service but also signified the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
Reflecting on his career, the retired Defence Chief expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the Armed Forces, noting that his tenure was defined by commitment, sacrifice, and a deep sense of duty to the nation.
He thanked the Nigerian Army and the entire Armed Forces for providing him with a platform to serve the country for nearly four decades, and congratulated his successor and other service chiefs, pledging his continued support as they carry on the vital task of safeguarding the nation.
General Musa also acknowledged the support of key national institutions, including the Vice President, members of the National Assembly, the Judiciary, and other stakeholders, whom he described as critical partners in strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture and democratic stability.

He urged them to remain loyal, disciplined, and dedicated to the values of service and sacrifice, reminding them that “defeat is temporary, but victory is forever.”
He also commended the Nigerian people, especially the youth, for their support and faith in the Armed Forces, as well as the media and other security agencies including the Nigerian Police, DSS, NIA, and DIA for their collaboration in promoting peace and national security.
