The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has selected Chief Uzu Okagbue as the running mate for its gubernatorial candidate, Paul Chukwuma, ahead of the November 8 election in Anambra State.

The announcement was made during a party stakeholders’ meeting at the State Party Secretariat in Awka, attended by local government chairmen and other party members.

Paul Chukwuma highlighted the extensive consultations that led to this decision, which involved political and religious leaders across the state. He praised Okagbue’s abilities as a “master strategist,” adding that his selection was key to restoring Anambra’s legacy of good governance.

“We sought a partner who is not only competent but also deeply committed to our vision for Anambra. Uzu embodies that vision,” Chukwuma said.

Okagbue, a seasoned political scientist and former Chief of Protocol and Deputy Chief of Staff under Governor Willie Obiano, is from Umunnachi in the Dunukofia Local Government Area. He holds a Diploma in Law and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Abuja and worked with Fidelity Bank in Abuja before entering politics.

Upon accepting the nomination, Okagbue pledged his loyalty to both Chukwuma and the YPP, promising to mobilise resources and leverage his network to help the party win in the upcoming elections.

“I am committed to ensuring YPP’s victory and driving the transformation Anambra State urgently needs,” he said.

The YPP Southeast Zonal Chairman, Mr. Mike Ejezie, expressed confidence in Okagbue’s ability to assist Chukwuma in revitalising Anambra and highlighted his strong performance in the previous administration. Local government chairmen also commended Chukwuma for involving party members in the selection process, believing it would strengthen party unity and enhance its electoral prospects.

Ejezie noted that both candidates aim to provide a strong alternative to the current administration of Chukwuma Soludo from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). With their combined experience and strategic vision, the YPP aims to connect with voters and secure a mandate for change in Anambra State.
