The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Strategy and Special Duties, Dr Ini Ememobong, has resigned his position following Governor Umo Eno’s recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Announcing his resignation in a Facebook post on Friday, Ememobong stated that his decision was in compliance with the governor’s directive that political appointees who do not intend to align with the APC should step down.
“Today, I submitted my resignation to His Excellency, in line with his instruction that those not joining the APC should respectfully disengage,” he wrote.
Ememobong explained that his resignation was based on personal convictions and ideological differences with the APC.
“I do not question the Governor’s right to make a political decision, but I am unable to follow that path. My political orientation is rooted in principle, and I have consistently opposed the ideology and conduct of the APC a position reaffirmed daily by many Nigerians,” he said.

He clarified that his decision was not the result of any disagreement with Governor Eno, whom he described as both a brother and a leader who had shown him trust.
“There is no strain in my relationship with the Governor. On the contrary, I remain deeply grateful for the confidence he placed in me, having entrusted me with two critical portfolios,” he said, referring also to his oversight of the Ibom Deep Sea Port project.
Ememobong expressed his appreciation to both Governor Eno and his predecessor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, for the opportunities given to him during his time in public service.
“My family and I remain thankful for the support received from both leaders. I am proud of the service I rendered, and if given another opportunity, I would gladly do more,” he reflected.
He concluded with a message to his supporters, acknowledging that while his decision may not sit well with everyone, it was made in good conscience and with integrity.
