Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division Garrison have successfully repelled an attack by suspected bandits and prevented the rustling of livestock in Asarara village, Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
A credible security source disclosed on Thursday that the incident occurred on Wednesday when armed bandits invaded the community in an attempt to abduct residents and steal livestock.
According to the source, the troops responded swiftly to the attack, engaging the assailants in a gun battle that forced them to flee the area.
“The troops mounted a determined resistance, compelling the bandits to retreat. Some of the fleeing suspects are believed to have sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange,” the source said.
The source, who requested anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media, said the fleeing bandits were pursued towards the Gwangi riverside community.
He commended residents for providing timely intelligence, noting that the information enabled security personnel to respond promptly and avert what could have resulted in significant loss of lives and property.
The source added that security agencies had strengthened surveillance and other proactive measures to safeguard communities across the area.
He also praised the professionalism, bravery and rapid response of the troops, describing their actions as instrumental in preventing the attack from escalating.
The source urged residents, particularly those in farming communities, to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities promptly.
