The former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has commissioned the Arikilla Layout Road Network in Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State as part of activities marking the third anniversary of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Kalu commended Governor Aliyu’s drive in infrastructure development, citing ongoing projects such as the new departure terminal at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport. He described the initiatives as evidence of a deliberate and well-structured development agenda aimed at repositioning Sokoto State.
According to him, the current pace of development reflects a clear effort to restore Sokoto’s historic significance as the seat of the Caliphate and a centre of progress.
“The governor is rebranding Sokoto and giving it the image it deserves as the seat of the Caliphate. The level of infrastructure development I have seen is impressive,” he said.
Senator Kalu also applauded the governor for commissioning multiple projects simultaneously, describing it as a sign of effective governance and measurable progress on the ground.
He called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to remain united and supportive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, urging a focus on development-driven politics rather than internal divisions.
He further emphasised that leadership should be anchored on patriotism and national interest, noting that Nigeria’s diversity should be viewed as a source of strength rather than division.
“Whether in Sokoto, Abia, Lagos or anywhere else, we worship the same God. What should matter most is the development of our country and the welfare of our people,” he stated.
The senator also underscored the importance of traditional institutions in sustaining peace and social harmony, calling for stronger involvement of traditional rulers in community-based conflict resolution.
He urged Governor Aliyu to sustain efforts in promoting unity, inclusiveness, and good governance, while strengthening cohesion within the APC in Sokoto State.
In his remarks, Governor Ahmed Aliyu described the Arikilla Layout Road Network as another milestone in his administration’s infrastructure agenda and commitment to delivering essential services to residents.
He said road development remains a top priority of his government due to its critical role in stimulating economic growth, improving connectivity, and enhancing citizens’ quality of life.
“Since assuming office three years ago, we have prioritised road construction and rehabilitation because we believe roads play a critical role in fostering economic prosperity and improving the lives of our people,” he said.
He explained that the newly completed Arikilla Layout Road Network was designed to accommodate population growth and expanding commercial activities in the area.
According to him, the project will improve accessibility, reduce travel time, enhance safety, and create new economic opportunities for residents and business owners.
“With the completion of this project, residents and business owners will enjoy improved accessibility, reduced travel time, enhanced safety, and greater economic opportunities.”
Governor Aliyu noted that the project would also attract investment and contribute to the broader modernisation and economic expansion of Sokoto State.
He stressed that infrastructure development serves not only as a transport system but also as a catalyst for economic transformation, social integration, and sustainable development.
The governor urged residents to protect public infrastructure by keeping drainage channels and road corridors clear to ensure durability and long-term functionality.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy across all parts of the state and called on citizens to continue supporting government programmes through cooperation and prayers.
He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and the Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said is driving national growth and development.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Nasiru Dantsoho, said the completion of the project demonstrates the administration’s commitment to modern infrastructure and urban expansion.
He noted that the road network would open up the area for residential development, improve accessibility, raise property values, and attract further investment into Sokoto State.
Dantsoho commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his consistent support and vision in transforming the state through strategic infrastructure delivery.
