NDC Affirms Gwarzo as 2027 Governorship Candidate

The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has elected the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Gwarzo emerged as the party’s flag bearer during the NDC governorship primaries held in Kano, with the Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, Mainasara Abubakar, announcing his affirmation.

Speaking shortly after his emergence, Gwarzo pledged to build a strong political movement capable of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.

“We are determined to launch a formidable force that will rescue Kano from years of failed promises and poor governance,” Gwarzo declared.

“The people of Kano deserve inclusive leadership that prioritises service, development, and the welfare of ordinary citizens.”

The former deputy governor expressed confidence in his political strength and grassroots connection, saying his years of public service and community engagement had prepared him for the task ahead.

“My political experience, administrative capacity, and close relationship with the people are strong ingredients for victory in 2027,” he said.

Gwarzo also called on Kano residents to unite against the APC, accusing the party of failing to meet the expectations of the people.

“This is the time for all well-meaning citizens to join hands and build a better Kano. We must work together to restore hope and create opportunities for everyone,” he added.

He urged members of the Kwankwasiyya movement to remain committed and mobilise for victory ahead of the 2027 elections.

Also speaking, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, congratulated party delegates and members of the primary election committee for conducting a peaceful and successful exercise.

Kwankwaso called on the people of Kano State to support Gwarzo, whom he described as an experienced and people-oriented leader.

“We believe Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo possesses the leadership qualities needed to move Kano forward and provide inclusive governance for the people,” Kwankwaso said.

Gwarzo previously served as Deputy Governor of Kano State and was twice elected chairman of a local government council.

He also served as commissioner in four different ministries in Kano State, where he played key roles in policy formulation and implementation across critical sectors.
