Omo-Agege’s Resignation Not a Threat - Delta APC

The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the resignation of former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, from the party as a welcome development, insisting that it poses no threat to the party’s stability or political fortunes.

The party’s position was contained in a statement issued on Thursday in Asaba by the State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo.

Omo-Agege, who represented Delta Central Senatorial District in the Senate, had on Wednesday submitted his resignation letter to his ward chairman in Orogun Ward 2, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

His resignation followed his defeat in the APC senatorial primary election for Delta Central.

In his resignation letter, Omo-Agege said the party no longer represented the interests of the people of Delta State and added that he could no longer remain passive in the political process when he still desired to serve his constituency actively.

Reacting to the development, the APC said Omo-Agege’s exit would not affect the party’s unity, strength or electoral prospects in the state.

The party maintained that the APC in Delta remained “strong, united, and irrevocably aligned” with the leadership and political direction of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

According to the statement, the party received news of the resignation with “unbothered equanimity” and wished the former senator well in his future political endeavours.

The APC stated that it had witnessed significant growth, renewed political relevance and wider grassroots acceptance since Governor Oborevwori aligned with the party.

It added that party members across the state had embraced what it described as a new vision of inclusion, stability and purposeful leadership under the governor’s influence.

The party also alleged that Omo-Agege had contributed little towards strengthening party structures or fostering unity since the governor joined the APC, insisting that his departure would not weaken the party.

“His exit does not diminish the strength, stability, or prospects of our great party,” the statement said.

The APC dismissed suggestions that the party’s fortunes in Delta were tied to any single political figure, describing such claims as false and misleading.

According to the party, Delta APC has evolved beyond personality-driven politics into a broader political institution built on collective leadership and commitment to the development of the state.

The party further claimed that events leading to Omo-Agege’s resignation indicated a gradual political separation, citing the defection of some of his close associates, including Ejaife Odebala, Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi and Collins Egbetamah, to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) before the primaries.

It also alleged that Omo-Agege’s participation in the senatorial primary was part of a calculated political strategy ahead of his eventual exit from the party after failing to secure the ticket.

The APC accused the former senator of distancing himself from key party activities after the primaries, including allegedly failing to support efforts towards President Bola Tinubu’s electoral victory.

“Let no one be deceived: the exit of one individual, regardless of past titles or political history, does nothing to diminish the strength, stability, or electoral prospects of Delta APC,” the statement added.

The party reaffirmed its loyalty to President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori, describing both leaders as figures whose leadership had repositioned the APC as a dominant political force both nationally and in Delta State.

It added that the Delta APC remains committed to consolidating its gains and strengthening its political structure for the benefit of the people of the state.
