Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has paid tribute to the workforce in Gombe State on International Workers’ Day, hailing their
dedication to the development and transformation of the state.
In his May Day message, the Governor described workers as the driving force behind governance and a central pillar of his administration’s ambition to build a greater, more prosperous Gombe.
“Today, we honour the resilience, commitment and hard work of our workers. Your contributions remain the foundation of the progress we are witnessing across the state,” he said.

Governor Yahaya reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fair compensation and improved welfare, noting that Gombe is among the first states to implement the national minimum wage.
“Even in the face of economic pressures, we have ensured the consistent payment of salaries, pensions and entitlements. We are equally determined to clear all inherited outstanding gratuities owed to retirees at both state and local government levels,” Governor Yahaya declared.
Addressing the 2926 theme, “Ensuring Safety and Health at Work in a Changing Climate,” the Governor said it mirrored his administration’s ongoing push for safer, more supportive workplaces.
“We have made meaningful strides in improving working conditions across public institutions. Our goal remains to safeguard the health, dignity and productivity of every worker,” he added.
The Governor also praised organised labour for maintaining industrial peace, describing their cooperation as key to his administration’s achievements to date.
He urged workers to remain steadfast amid current economic challenges, calling for unity and shared responsibility.Governor Yahaya highlighted his recent approval for the full implementation of the new national minimum wage for local government employees, including staff of the 11 Local Government Councils, Local Education Authorities and primary healthcare workers, effective May 2026.
This, he noted, completes payment of the outstanding 43 percent balance, bringing implementation to 100 per cent.
Ephasising on the ongoing political season, the Governor urged citizens to conduct themselves responsibly and uphold unity and mutual respect before, during and after the elections.
