The Federal Government has reiterated its determination to stamp out terrorism in Nigeria, with Vice President Kashim Shettima declaring that those behind recent attacks will face decisive action.
The Vice President gave the assurance on Wednesday during a visit to victims of the recent bomb blast in Maiduguri, who are currently receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital in Borno State.
He explained that, in addition to directives already issued by the President to security agencies, efforts are ongoing to enhance operational capacity through increased investment in equipment and logistics to intensify the counter-terrorism campaign.
Reacting to the multiple explosions that rocked Maiduguri on Monday, leaving over 100 people affected and more than 20 dead, Shettima condemned the attack in strong terms, describing the perpetrators as inhumane. He stressed that no justification exists for the killing of innocent citizens.
The Vice President said his visit was aimed at showing solidarity with the victims and their families, assuring them that the government would provide the necessary support through relevant agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the North East Development Commission (NEDC), and the Borno State Government.
He emphasised that the Federal Government remains committed to restoring peace and stability in the North-East and across the country, noting that the fight against terrorism remains a top priority.
VP Shettima was accompanied by Borno State Deputy Governor Usman Kadafur, Director-General of NEMA Zubaida Umar, the Chief Medical Director of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Professor Ahmed Ahijo, as well as other senior government officials.
