Israeli Strikes Kill Two, Wound Four in Gaza

Israeli military actions in Gaza on Sunday left two Palestinians dead in the Tuffah neighbourhood of northern Gaza and four others injured in Gaza City, local health authorities reported.

Medical officials said the injuries in Gaza City were caused by an Israeli drone strike that exploded on the rooftop of a multi-storey building, sending debris onto civilians on the street below.

The Israeli military has not commented on either incident.

Gaza remains devastated following the conflict sparked by an October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas on southern Israel, which left 1,200 people dead, according to Israeli figures.

The Gaza health ministry reports that more than 71,000 people, mostly civilians, have died from Israeli fire since the war began, including at least 480 since the ceasefire took effect last October. Israel says four of its soldiers have been killed by militants in Gaza during the same period. Both sides continue to accuse each other of violating the truce.

Earlier this month, Washington announced that the ceasefire plan had entered a second phase, in which Israel is expected to withdraw troops further from Gaza while Hamas is to cede administrative control of the territory.

U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met on Saturday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the situation in Gaza, according to sources familiar with the talks, while violence continued to flare across the enclave.

Meanwhile, in Khan Younis, over a hundred people gathered to mourn a man killed by Israeli drone fire on Saturday. The funeral began with prayers in front of his body, draped in white, at Nasser Hospital.
