Presidency Confirms Freedom of All Abducted Papiri Children

The Nigerian Government has confirmed the release of the remaining 130 schoolchildren abducted from St Mary Catholic School, Papiri, in Niger State, bringing to an end the captivity of all pupils taken during the November incident.

The latest development follows the earlier rescue of 100 pupils earlier this month and effectively concludes the operation to secure the freedom of all affected students.

The announcement was made on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Mr Sunday Dare, who disclosed the update in a statement shared on his verified X account.

Confirming the development, Dare said: “Another 130 abducted Niger State pupils released, none left in captivity.”

He noted that the successful release of the remaining pupils marked a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to address school abductions in the state and ensure the safe return of all victims.

The Presidency reiterated that the rescue operation underscored its determination to prioritise the safety of schoolchildren and strengthen security in vulnerable communities. It added that sustained efforts were being made to restore public confidence and prevent a recurrence of such incidents, particularly in areas prone to kidnapping.

Authorities have continued to assure parents and residents that protecting schools and securing the release of abducted persons remain a top priority of the current administration.
