The Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards has released its list of nominees for the 2025 edition, featuring 25 categories and a newly introduced “Best Series” category to celebrate the industry’s growing embrace of serialised storytelling.
The announcement, made on Monday in Lagos, highlighted the achievements of filmmakers, actors, and creative professionals who have contributed to the growth of Nigerian cinema over the past year.
Leading this year’s nominations are Seven Doors and Abanisete, which garnered nine and eight nominations respectively, dominating key categories including Best Director, Best Actor, and Movie of the Year.
Other strong contenders include Farmer’s Bride and My Mother Is a Witch, which earned multiple nominations across both creative and technical categories.
In the acting categories, Abanisete star Ibrahim Yekini, Blackout’s Gideon Okeke, Seven Doors’ Femi Adebayo, Son of the Soil’s Razaq Adoti, Farmer’s Bride’s Tobi Bakre, and Inspector Jero’s Jide Awobona are nominated for Best Actor.
Best Actress nominees include Folu Storms (Red Circle), Gbubemi Ejeye (Farmer’s Bride), Padita Agu (Blackout), Efe Irele (My Mother Is a Witch), Chioma Chukwuka (Seven Doors), and Florence Nwachukwu (Fury).
Other notable categories include Best Director, featuring Niyi Akinmolayan, Adebayo Tijani, Tope Adebayo, Jack’enneth Opukeme, and Toka McBaror; and Movie of the Year, with Abanisete, My Mother Is a Witch, Farmer’s Bride, The Waiter, Her Excellency, and The Serpent’s Gift competing for the top prize.
The newly introduced Best Series category features The Party and Seven Doors.
The 2025 BON Awards will take place on December 14 in Lagos and will feature a Guinness World Record attempt for the Longest Red Carpet.
