The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed optimism that the National Library of Nigeria, when completed, will stand as a national pride modern, digitised, and equipped to serve the knowledge-building needs of all Nigerians while preserving the nation’s history.
Mrs Tinubu made this known after a facility tour of the Qatar National Library in Doha, describing it as an inspiring model for what Nigeria envisions. She noted that the Nigerian government seeks to draw lessons and a worthy template from Qatar’s advanced library system.
She emphasised the importance of documenting Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage for posterity, noting that young people must have reliable reference points to learn about their nation’s identity and history.

The First Lady commended the motto of the Qatar National Library, “Free Access to Knowledge,” describing it as worthy of emulation.
“With its two million books and 500,000 e-books, Qatar National Library, located in Education City, Doha, is one of the country’s greatest monuments and a true pride of Qatar,” she said.
Her visit to the Qatar National Library marked her first official engagement in Doha and precedes her meeting with the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. The upcoming engagement aims to foster partnerships that will help tackle challenges related to out-of-school children and Almajiri education in Nigeria.
