Tanzania to Host Continental Summit on Social Security

Tanzania is set to host a high-level Continental summit focused on social security of the continent, a senior official has announced.

The summit, scheduled for 10 July in the northern city of Arusha, will bring together social security leaders and policymakers from 15 African countries.

The participating countries include Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, South Sudan, the Comoros, Sierra Leone, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Mali, Namibia, and the host nation, Tanzania.

Ridhiwani Kikwete, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Youth, and Employment), said the event aims to elevate regional dialogue on the strategic role of social security institutions in national development agendas.

According to him, the summit will be preceded by a stakeholder forum on 9 July, providing a platform for thought leaders to deliberate on emerging trends and challenges in the sector.

“This forum will bring together stakeholders, policymakers, regulators, and top executives to explore how the sector can better drive social and economic transformation across Africa,” Kikwete said.
