Olubadan Passes Away Days After 90th Birthday

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, joined his ancestors in the early hours of Monday morning at the age of 90.

The Maye Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oloye Lekan Alabi, who confirmed the monarch’s passing, stated, “Baba joined his ancestors early Monday.”

Oba Owolabi Olakulehin passed away less than a year after his ascension to the throne, and some days after the celebration of his 90th birthday.

Born on 5 July 1935, Oba Olakulehin was crowned the Olubadan of Ibadanland on 12 July 2024 by the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, becoming the 43rd monarch to hold the revered title.

He succeeded the late Oba (Dr) Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, who also joined his ancestors in 2024, two years into his reign.

According to reports, members of the royal household were seen early on Monday removing the personal belongings of the late Olubadan from the palace at Oke Aremo in Ibadan.

Other sources, who wished to remain anonymous, indicated that the family is currently preparing an official statement, which is expected to be released shortly.

Some family members and their close associates have gathered at the late monarch’s private residence.

The Osi Olubadan and former Governor of Oyo State, Rashidi Ladoja, is next in line to ascend the throne of the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
