The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has commissioned the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Innovation Park in Ogun State.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held on Wednesday in Abeokuta, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, emphasised the park’s strategic importance to Nigeria’s economic growth.

Dr Tijani described the facility as a key component of President Bola Tinubu’s agenda, which places digital innovation, youth empowerment, and inclusive economic growth at the centre of efforts to transform Nigeria into a one trillion-dollar economy.

He noted that the Ministry was committed to positioning Nigeria as a global leader in digital infrastructure, talent development, and technological innovation.

According to the Minister, the Innovation Park is intended to serve as a platform for youth empowerment”a space where skills meet opportunity.”

“It is a launchpad for innovation, where ideas become ventures and ventures grow into industries. It is also a catalyst for community transformation, especially within the surrounding areas,” he stated.

Dr Tijani added that Abeokuta has the potential to evolve into one of Africa’s leading technology hubs, capable of competing not only with Lagos, but also with cities such as Kigali, Accra, and Nairobi.

“What we now require is to unlock that potential and make the necessary connections,” he said.

He also explained that the government was laying the groundwork through investments in fibre optics, artificial intelligence frameworks, talent development pipelines, and progressive regulation not only in Lagos or Abuja, but across the entire nation.

Describing Abeokuta as a city steeped in history, culture, and resilience, with a growing number of academic institutions and eager young minds, he called for further investment and nurturing.

The Minister commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his administration’s strategic investments in infrastructure, tourism, and the digital economy.

“When we invest strategically, collaborate across levels of government, and prioritise innovation as a tool for inclusion, we are not merely erecting buildings we are building a nation,” Tijani said.

In his remarks, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr Aminu Maida, said the project represents tangible progress in delivering President Tinubu’s digital economy agenda.

He stated that the Innovation Park is a vital part of efforts to accelerate innovation in Information and Communications Technology (ICT), bolster research capabilities, and support sustainable growth in Nigeria’s digital economy.

“Technology is one of the most powerful drivers of economic transformation. For a developing economy like ours, it represents one of our strongest opportunities to leapfrog traditional development pathways,” Maida said.

He emphasised the need to create an enabling environment for technology to thrive.

“The concept of the Digital Industrial Park stems from our vision to promote innovation and digital entrepreneurship in the ICT sector, and to strengthen research and development.

“In addition to the facility here in Abeokuta, the Commission is implementing three other Digital Industrial Parks in Kano, Borno, and Enugu states.

“These parks are equipped with computer laboratories, smart networking infrastructure, collaborative workspaces, and multipurpose halls. They also feature hands-on laboratories for training and skills acquisition,” he added.

In his address, Governor Dapo Abiodun described the inauguration as a significant milestone in the state’s journey to becoming a hub for technology, innovation, and digital transformation in Nigeria.

“This Digital Innovation Park represents progress. It is a catalyst for economic growth and a testament to our administration’s commitment to leveraging technology for the benefit of our people,”
