The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of the ₦35,000 wage award arrears to federal civil servants nationwide.
This development was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), which confirmed that many government employees had already received credit alerts, while others would be paid in due course.
The statement, signed by Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations at the OAGF, assured workers that all outstanding payments would be processed and paid accordingly.
“The Federal Government has commenced payment of the ₦35,000 wage award arrears to federal government workers,” the statement read.
The OAGF also addressed recent reports circulating on some online platforms, clarifying that the Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr Babatunde Ogunjimi, did not state that the wage award was excluded from the 2025 Budget.
“The Accountant-General of the Federation never said that the ₦35,000 wage award was excluded from the 2025 Budget, contrary to reports by certain online media outlets,” the statement noted.
It further emphasised that Mr Ogunjimi had not made any public statement on the matter and reiterated the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises to workers, including the full settlement of all arrears.
The wage award, part of a palliative agreement reached in 2023 following the removal of fuel subsidy, is being paid in monthly instalments of ₦35,000 over a five-month period.

According to the OAGF, “The payments will be made in instalments of ₦35,000 per month over a five-month period.”
Last month, the OAGF stated that while the April 2025 salaries would be paid separately, the first tranche of the wage award arrears would follow immediately after salary disbursement.
In January, the Federal Government reaffirmed its pledge to clear the outstanding wage award arrears and confirmed that payments had resumed.
