The World Bank Group and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, have announced a major new collaboration aimed at strengthening immunisation and primary healthcare systems worldwide.
Under the partnership, the two organisations plan to mobilise at least US$2 billion over the next five years in joint financing. The funding will be directed towards expanding access to vaccines and strengthening health infrastructure, particularly in low- and lower-middle-income countries.
A central focus of the initiative is to support regional vaccine manufacturing, especially in Africa, with the goal of boosting local production capacity and making immunisation efforts more sustainable and equitable.

The collaboration also aligns with a broader global ambition to deliver quality health services to 1.5 billion people by 2030, integrating immunisation, primary care and long-term health system strengthening.
Leaders of both organisations said the new financing tools, including blended finance, guarantees and other funding instruments will help countries move away from heavy dependence on external aid and build self-sustaining health programmes.
