Türkiye has pledged its support to Nigeria in combating insurgency, with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan affirming that his country stands firmly with Nigeria under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership.
The commitment was made on Tuesday during a joint press briefing with President Tinubu, who is currently on a state visit to Türkiye.
Drawing on Türkiye’s extensive experience in counter-terrorism and addressing emerging security challenges across Africa, President Erdogan noted that terrorist groups, particularly in the Sahel region, continue to threaten peace and stability on the continent.
He said discussions during bilateral meetings focused on potential areas for closer collaboration, including military training and intelligence sharing, with Türkiye ready to offer its expertise in counter-terrorism operations.

“Terrorist organisations emerging, particularly in Africa’s Sahel region, unfortunately pose a threat to the peace of the entire continent. We stand with the people of Nigeria in their fight against terrorism under President Tinubu’s leadership,” Erdogan said.
He added: “Today, we discussed opportunities for deeper cooperation in military training and intelligence. Türkiye is prepared to share its significant experience in combating terrorism.”
President Erdogan also expressed confidence that Nigeria would soon benefit from meetings scheduled between Nigerian officials and leading Turkish defence companies during the state visit.
“I am optimistic that we will see positive results from engagements between Nigerian officials and our defence industry companies during this visit,” he added.
Responding, President Tinubu thanked Türkiye for its willingness to collaborate with Nigeria, highlighting the shared commitment to promoting global peace, security, and prosperity.
