The Trump administration plans to halt federal funding to any organisation or government supporting overseas programmes related to gender identity or diversity, Politico reported on Wednesday, citing a U.S. official and nonprofit groups briefed on the change.
According to the report, the restrictions will be treated as an expansion of the so-called Mexico City Policy a Republican initiative that bars foreign recipients of U.S. health funding from providing or promoting abortion services, even if financed by other sources.
The new policy is expected to block U.S. support for American-based and foreign entities engaged in “diversity, equity and inclusion” initiatives, which the administration views as racial discrimination, and for transgender-related programmes, which it argues are harmful to women, Politico said. The ban would apply to nonprofits, foreign governments, and United Nations agencies.

Asked for comment, a senior State Department official said the agency “continues to advance President Trump’s America First foreign policy,” adding that the department would soon take further steps to close loopholes in previous versions of the Mexico City Policy and “ensure every penny of U.S. foreign assistance prioritises American values, not the woke agenda.”
Politico named the Global Health Council and MSI Reproductive Choices as among the organisations informed of the plan. Neither immediately responded to Reuters requests for comment.
