Tottenham Hotspur overcame their challenging domestic season with a 3-1 home win over Norway’s Bodo/Glimt, putting them on the verge of reaching the Europa League final on Thursday.

Brennan Johnson’s header within the first minute set the tone for Ange Postecoglou’s side, and James Maddison doubled their advantage with a composed finish in the 34th minute, following a precise long pass.

A 61st-minute penalty, awarded after Fredrik Sjovold fouled Cristian Romero, was confidently converted by Dominic Solanke, giving the hosts a commanding lead in the semi-final.

Bodo/Glimt, the first Norwegian club to reach a European semi-final, failed to register a shot on target until the 83rd minute. However, captain Ulrik Saltnes’s deflected effort late in the match offered them a glimmer of hope for the second leg, set to take place on their artificial pitch in the Arctic Circle.
