The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reiterated its unwavering support for Team Nigeria as they gear up for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, scheduled from September 13 to 21.
In a statement issued by Kola Daniel, media aide to the NSC Director-General Bukola Olopade, the NSC urged Nigerian athletes to give their utmost performance and represent the country with pride. Olopade expressed confidence that both the commission and Nigerians at large are fully behind the team.
“From the outset, the NSC Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, emphasized that Nigeria must make its mark in athletics,” Olopade said. “This is a moment to be proud of, and we believe our athletes will compete with unwavering determination to secure podium finishes. The commission will continue to support them every step of the way as they proudly carry our flag in Tokyo.”
Olopade also confirmed that he would be in Tokyo to offer direct support to the team throughout the competition.
Team Nigeria’s 15-member squad is led by world record holder Tobi Amusan, who holds the 100m hurdles world record, and long jump sensation Ese Brume. The team comprises a blend of seasoned and rising athletes competing in sprints, jumps, throws, and hurdles.
