President Bola Tinubu has submitted to the Senate the list of nominees for the newly established North Central, South West, and South South Development Commissions, requesting their statutory screening and confirmation.
The list was formally presented during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, marking the beginning of the legislative process to constitute the boards of the regional intervention bodies.
For the South West Development Commission, Senator Olubunmi Adetunbi from Ekiti State has been nominated as Chairman, alongside 17 other nominees. Dr Charles Akinola was named as the proposed Managing Director.
The North Central Development Commission has 19 nominees, with Cosmas Akiyir and Cyril Yeltsin proposed as Chairman and Managing Director, respectively.
In the South South region, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Chibudom Nwuche, has been nominated as Chairman, while Usoro Offiong Akpabio is named as the prospective Managing Director.
The nominations have been referred to the appropriate Senate Committees, with a directive from Senate President Akpabio for them to report back within two weeks.
