Tinubu formally Swears In Minister of State for Finance

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally sworn in Prof. Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance at a ceremony held on Monday at the State House in Abuja.

Oyedele’s appointment follows his confirmation after the President earlier forwarded his nomination to the Nigerian Senate for approval. He previously served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.

He takes over the position from Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, who has been reassigned to the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning, marking her third ministerial role in the current administration.

The appointment comes months after the National Assembly of Nigeria approved a series of tax reform laws developed under Oyedele’s leadership of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.

Originally from Ikaram in the Akoko area of Ondo State, the 50-year-old economist and public policy specialist brings extensive experience in taxation, finance and economic policy to the role.

Oyedele began his academic career at Yaba College of Technology, where he obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy and Finance. He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.

He has also participated in executive education programmes at several global institutions, including the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Before his entry into government service, Oyedele spent more than two decades with global professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, joining the organisation in 2001 and eventually rising to the position of Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.

In addition to his professional career, he is actively involved in academia. Oyedele currently serves as a professor at Babcock University and is also a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
