President Bola Tinubu on Monday held a closed-door meeting with the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr Zacch Adedeji.
The meeting followed an order by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, directing the sealing of a FIRS office in Abuja over alleged non-payment of ground rent for 25 years.
The move sparked widespread criticism and prompted a prompt response from FIRS, which described the action as “malicious” and “unprofessional,” accusing the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) of adopting a heavy-handed stance on what it called an intergovernmental matter.
While the Presidency has yet to issue an official statement, sources indicated that the meeting between President Tinubu and Dr Adedeji was convened to ease tensions and promote effective collaboration between agencies in support of national revenue goals.

Also at the State House, President Tinubu met separately with several senior cabinet members, including the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun; Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake; and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.
In addition, the President received Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Mr Mark Okoye.
Mr Okoye recently outlined the Commission’s goal of transforming the South East into a $200 billion regional economy by 2035, a vision that aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the national aspiration of achieving a $1 trillion GDP.
