President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on his victory in the state’s governorship election, describing the outcome as a positive indication of democracy’s resilience in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the President also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election.
Tinubu said he had personally called Adeleke to congratulate him on his re-election, adding that the result reflected the confidence the people of Osun State placed in the governor.
The President urged Adeleke to use his second term to unite the people of the state and promote development, stability and social and economic progress, regardless of their political affiliations.
“I wish him great success as he prepares to lead the state for the next four years,” Tinubu said.
He also praised the other candidates for their participation, saying their involvement strengthened Nigeria’s democratic process.
“The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land,” the President said.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared the winner of the August 15 election after securing 511,067 votes and winning 19 of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas.
His closest challenger, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji, polled 444,815 votes and won 11 Local Government Areas.
