Tinubu appoints new governing council members for three federal universities

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of new members to the governing councils of the University of Abuja, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (NAU).

This development comes two months after President Tinubu dissolved the Governing Council of the University of Abuja and dismissed its Vice-Chancellor, Aisha Maikudi, amid controversy surrounding her eligibility for the position.

The newly appointed members of the University of Abuja’s Governing Council are:

  1. Professor Rosemary Iriowen Egonmwan – South South

  2. Dr. Adedeji Adefuye – South West

  3. Professor Sarki Abba Abdulkadir – North West

  4. Professor Aminu Mohammed Dukku – North East

President Tinubu also made appointments to fill existing vacancies in the governing councils of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

The newly appointed members for UNN are:

  1. Rt. Hon. Barr. Ogbonna Eugene Odo – South East

  2. Muhammad Inuwa Tahir, mni – North West

For Nnamdi Azikiwe University, the newly appointed council members are:

  1. Dr. Nkem Okeke – South East

  2. Ofoke Chukwuma Charles Ugbala – South East

  3. Dame Amina Patrick Yakowa – North West

  4. Nojeeb Oriola Agunbiade – South West
