Stock Market Gains ₦173bn to Start Week Strong

The Nigerian stock market commenced the week on a positive trajectory on Monday, with investors recording gains of ₦173 billion as key performance indicators rose by 0.25 per cent.

Specifically, the market capitalisation of the Nigerian Exchange Ltd. (NGX) advanced to ₦70.635 trillion from ₦70.462 trillion at the close of trading on Friday, reflecting a ₦173 billion increase.

Similarly, the All-Share Index (ASI) gained 273.95 points, or 0.25 per cent, to close at 112,015.96, up from 111,742.01 recorded in the previous session.

The upward trend was largely driven by investor interest in medium- and large-cap equities, including Multiverse Mining, Livestock Feeds, Lasaco Assurance, Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals, Royal Exchange, among others.

Despite the overall market gain, sentiment remained negative as the number of decliners outweighed advancers, with 33 stocks losing value compared to 23 gainers.

Top Losers

Legend Internet led the losers’ chart with a decline of 9.90 per cent to close at ₦5.55, followed by Secure Electronic Technology, which dropped by 9.84 per cent to 55k per share.
ETranzact fell by 9.56 per cent to ₦6.15, University Press shed 9.32 per cent to ₦5.35, while McNicholas lost 7.31 per cent to close at ₦2.41 per share.

Top Gainers

On the gainers’ chart, Multiverse Mining appreciated by 9.87 per cent to close at ₦8.35 per share, while Livestock Feeds gained 9.57 per cent, ending the day at ₦10.30.
Lasaco Assurance rose by 8.11 per cent to ₦2.80, Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals advanced by 8.06 per cent to ₦3.35, and Royal Exchange climbed 7.50 per cent to 86k per share.

Market Activity

A total of 517.95 million shares valued at ₦10.07 billion were traded in 17,019 deals — a decline from the previous trading session, which recorded 1.9 billion shares worth ₦64.15 billion across 18,653 deals.

Fidelity Bank led the volume chart with 98.81 million shares worth ₦1.88 billion.
Royal Exchange followed with 58.45 million shares valued at ₦50.24 million, while Access Corporation recorded trades totalling 55.17 million shares worth ₦1.21 billion.
Cutix traded 32.26 million shares valued at ₦101.05 million, and United Capital exchanged 27.18 million shares worth ₦534.38 million.
