Vice President Kashim Shettima has met with the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to deepen economic and cultural ties.
Speaking during the bilateral meeting, Shettima conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s determination to revive Nigeria’s long-standing friendship with the Caribbean nation, stressing the importance of mutual understanding and support.
“What binds us together supersedes whatever divides us,” the Vice President said, pointing to the shared African heritage of Caribbean populations, their largely English-speaking background, and membership in the Commonwealth as foundations for stronger relations.
He assured Drew that Nigeria is keen to rekindle a sense of brotherhood and sisterhood with St. Kitts and Nevis, noting that contact between Africa and the Caribbean has been too limited compared to their shared history and values.

Shettima also recalled President Tinubu’s visit to Saint Lucia earlier this year, describing it as part of wider efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s engagement with the Caribbean-African diaspora.
On his part, Prime Minister Drew lamented the low levels of trade and interaction between Africa and the Caribbean but expressed readiness to work closely with Nigeria to boost commerce and cooperation across the continent.
