Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and African Development Bank President Dr Akinwumi Adesina are set to lead the AgriConnect Summit 2025, aimed at empowering Africa’s emerging generation of agripreneurs.

According to a statement from organisers Lorien Works, the summit will take place in Lagos on 30 May 2025. It will focus on youth-led solutions to food insecurity and agricultural transformation, under the theme, ‘Bridging the Generational Divide: Tactics and Strategies for Building Future Agripreneurs’.

The organisers praised the event’s second edition, noting that it will “bring together leaders, visionaries and innovators from across the African agricultural sector” to develop practical strategies to engage young people in agribusiness.

The summit will be chaired by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, a long-standing advocate for agricultural transformation and food sovereignty.

Dr Adesina is scheduled to deliver the keynote address, drawing on his extensive experience implementing youth-focused agricultural policies throughout Africa.

Other notable attendees include Chinese Consul General Yan Yuqing, European Union Ambassador to Nigeria Ambassador Gautier Mignot, and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Ahead of the main event, Lorien Works will host a free two-day workshop and training programme from 28 to 29 May, aimed at deepening youth participation.

The initiative will target aspiring agripreneurs with sessions on agribusiness finance, branding, market access, agri-tech innovation, and opportunities within the public sector.

Participants will have the chance to pitch their agribusiness ideas to a panel of industry leaders for the opportunity to win grants and cash prizes of up to $5,000, as well as mentorship support.

The organisers also announced a special AgriTech Hackathon running alongside the workshop, which will bring together tech talents to develop digital solutions addressing agricultural challenges. Winners will be recognised during the summit.

Dr Toyosi Obasanjo, Managing Partner at Lorien Works and CEO of Siella Red Media & Tech, who is co-organising the event with Founding Partner Temire Bob-Egbe, described the platform as designed to unite generations, sectors, and skills to reimagine Africa’s agricultural future.
