The Director and Chief Executive of the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Professor Sadiya Sani-Daura, has revealed plans to establish study centres in all 774 local government areas across Nigeria.
She made the disclosure in an interview in Kaduna to mark the second anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“These study centres will be fully equipped and adequately staffed to function effectively,” Sani-Daura said.
She explained that the initiative is part of efforts to make the NTI more accessible to Nigerians regardless of their location.
“We already have state-of-the-art zonal and state centres, and we intend to leverage these existing structures to ensure the success of the proposed LGA study centres,” she added.

The director reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to ensuring that teachers nationwide continuously upgrade their professional capacities.
“Everyone can improve and develop their skills. Our goal is to ensure that all Nigerian teachers are equipped to do so in the shortest time possible,” she said.
According to Sani-Daura, keeping Nigerian teachers up to date with global trends in education is essential.
“The world is rapidly evolving, driven by emerging technologies and innovative teaching methodologies. Nigerian teachers must catch up and stay current,” she said.
She also pledged to transform the NTI into a world-class institution for teacher education, in line with its statutory mandate.
To that end, the institute has begun awarding degrees, postgraduate diplomas, and advanced diplomas in education through affiliations with institutions such as Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, University of Maiduguri, and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, among others.
“Education is key to solving virtually all of Nigeria’s major challenges,” she stated. “With the right investment in education at all levels, we can address issues ranging from crime to broader societal problems.”
